
"Own it, or let it own you."
That was my psychologist's advice at fifteen, when I was diagnosed with dyslexia after years of being told, in various polite ways, that I wasn't good enough. I chose to own it.
Because dyslexia makes dense, jargon-heavy information genuinely hard to process, I had no choice but to find the shortest path to the centre of an idea. It took me years to realise that was not a workaround. It was the whole skill.
I spent fifteen years putting it to work inside some of the world's most respected advertising networks, J. Walter Thompson, Saatchi & Saatchi, Grey and Dentsu, across brands like Google, Qantas, Toyota and BINGE. I launched cars in Europe, a streaming service in a pandemic, and one of Australia's largest men's mental health campaigns.
Today I point all of it at the companies that need clarity most: founders in deep tech and advanced manufacturing, building genuinely important things the market can't yet understand. That is the work of Murphy & Company, and the most meaningful work I have done.
Away from the desk I'm a third culture kid, Filipino mum, British dad, born in Abu Dhabi, the eldest of three. I have captained the Philippines National Rugby League team, walked more than 200 Australian beaches, and will happily defend the rom-com as a serious art form.
